The last thing you want to grapple with is a frigid home. You have to decide whether or not it’s going to be natural gas or wood-burning heat. If a high efficiency fireplace or wood-burning stove is what you’re cooking with this winter, then it’s time to get that fire wood ready. You’ll want those flames raging by the time that first frost coats the grass. There’s no doubt that this can be a slightly awkward process. And you may want to consider building an outside storage shed to hold the wood (you can get building a shed plans here). If you’re cutting your own wood, you probably should have started a while ago. However, if you’re simply ordering it by the cord, then get it done, because there’s stacking to do.
