Teleprompter Training Tip #25: Keep Eye Contact

This is something that needs practice, and/or a lot of takes to master.

Unless advised differently, when you commence a take start looking straight at the camera. When you finish a take, keep looking at the camera. The same goes for during a take . . . unless you have mastered the technique.

Eye movements become more important as the shots become tighter. Breaking eye contact with your audience will make you appear to be uneasy or even suggest you have something to hide. Only look away from the camera after the Director says “cut”.

Many people don’t even realize they are looking away from the camera, and if the look away is done at an edit spot in the script, you’ll have to do an extra take.

It’s ok to blink though!

When you are ready to bring your presentations in-house, use professional teleprompter software . . . it will make a huge difference to the success of your production.
