is it legal for a company to "terminate" employees and replace them with an automated system?

i’m employed in a us-based bank and our unit-non official staff- is in a threat to be "redundant", and the management is claiming that they are downsizing.

This happens all the time. There is no law against an employer tossing out a person in favor of a machine.

It is perfectly legal. Don’t worry, when they run out of people to fire, they will be standing next to you at the unemployment line

Absolutely. If it wasn’t legal, then there wouldn’t be any robots working anywhere (like the auto industry).
