Do you think most teachers are lousy? If so would you like to use automated or largely video based instructions
What do you think of automating education?Or woyld it be better to have videos on all topics with LIVE help where needed or prefered. This could bring down the cost of education and allow it to be easily accessed by all.Like the MITOCW! Some institutions can then run certfication programs and charge for those!
Well atleast upto grade12 this must be done? What do you think?
This is what I have obseved in the classroom. The overwhelming majority of teachers are dedicated to their students, their profession, and their discipline. Are there bad teachers…yes, just like there are bad doctors, bad cops, bad parents, etc. Yet we don’t condemn an entire group based on the performance of a few individuals.
As for technology in the classroom the way you describe it… The problem that is inherit with automated video classrooms is that children are allowed to work at their own pace. Which is an awesome idea provided the student is motivated, wants to learn, and has an end goal in mind. Unfortunately, that does not describe the vast majority of students in American high schools today. When you remove the human teacher from the classroom, you eliminate outside motivation (both positive and negative i.e. "Great job!" or "Do I need to call your parents to make you behave?"). You also eliminate the most important part teaching…the human interaction. To prove my point, let me ask you a question. How many good teachers influenced and changed your life, and how many computers and video screens have done the same?
