Do you think most teachers are lousy?If so would you like to use automated or largely video based instructions

What do you think of automating education?Or woyld it be better to have videos on all topics with LIVE help where needed or prefered.This could bring down the cost of education and allow it to be easily accessed by all.Like the MITOCW! Some institutions can then run certfication programs and charge for those!
Well atleast upto grade12 this must be done?What do you think?

This is what I have obseved in the classroom. The overwhelming majority of teachers are dedicated to their students, their profession, and their discipline. Are there bad teachers…yes, just like there are bad doctors, bad cops, bad parents, etc. Yet we don’t condemn an entire group based on the performance of a few individuals.

As for technology in the classroom the way you describe it… The problem that is inherit with automated video classrooms is that children are allowed to work at their own pace. Which is an awesome idea provided the student is motivated, wants to learn, and has an end goal in mind. Unfortunately, that does not describe the vast majority of students in American high schools today. When you remove the human teacher from the classroom, you eliminate outside motivation (both positive and negative i.e. "Great job!" or "Do I need to call your parents to make you behave?"). You also eliminate the most important part teaching…the human interaction. To prove my point, let me ask you a question. How many good teachers influenced and changed your life, and how many computers and video screens have done the same?

I don’t think teachers are lousy.
However, I can’t interact with a video!

I think most teachers are overworked and underappreciated (by parents, students, administrators, etc.) Education is not just about learning the facts of a subject….instead, it is about learning how to interact as a proper citizen of an ever-expanding global community. Videos and websites can offer our students countless insights into various subjects…however, ultimately, a student can not learn how to efficiently interact with a DVD player…students need interaction and stimulation. I think that, on the whole, most teachers strive to make instruction in that idea of interaction and civic duty a DAILY part of their classroom activities…however, until teachers get the recognition they deserve, they will continue to be viewed as outdated or "lousy" in the eyes of the public.

Hmm…. Hi I dont know wether Im the correct person to answear this… I`m a undergratuate from sri-lanka…well here goes..

I have been schooling for I think 13 years and now in university 3rd year…I`m doing two degrees together so I think that I come in to contact with teachers and lecturers more often.

When I went to the university the biggest change was the reduction in the teacher student hours…..we had more presentations than tutering….but after some time u loose the interest into studing…

But when I was schooling I had alot of loud, lousy teachers in ma school and kept accusing them of not doing their job correctly…but now I feel that it is beacuse of them that I`m in a position today…So i `m really greatfull for those loud teachers for poking me to secceed…

I hope this is what ur looking for in the end..

I don’t think teachers are lousy, but its the students who have changed. Times have changed, and individual focus is now more important than group learning. With "no child left behind" students are taught at the same pace, which is good if all students learn at the same speed. But they don’t. Legislation like this caters to the lowest common denominator. Kids with an affinity for certain subjects are required to learn at 25mph when they are capably of 75mph.

Using current technology is the key to the future. Education in many cases could be free, from k-12 and even college. Classes could be put on-line and students could learn at their pace. With "wiki’s" and other web 2.0 tech students could learn from a wide variety of subjects. This approach of self learning wont work for everyone, so maintaining the current school system is important. But many things need to change.

Get rid of the teachers unions
Encourage self learning
Make school year round with several multi week breaks
Maybe the possibility of school uniform

These are not new ideas, but with the decline of education in the United States. We need to really look at so of these things and find real solutions.

No,
Teachers were great living human kind on planet earth.
Without the teachers would not had mastered our creator’s universal communication systems in the new universal language on planet earth.
Observe how little children learn communicating with Mr. Big Brother and how they no longer know how to communicate with living human kind on planet earth.
How they all started to behave and function like artificial intelligence too on planet earth.
The teachers just follow instruction to teach ghost stories to little children on planet earth.
Now we see how all the mummies started walking the streets on planet earth.
