Toyota Sienna ‘99 rear view mirror does not move up/down?
I noticed that after switching car alarm mode from valet to normal, passenger side power rear view mirrow stopped moving up and down. I talked to the Toyota dealer – he said that the problem is with car alarm. I talked to the car alarm installer, he said that car alarm does not connect to power mirrors, therefore cannot affect them, and suggested go to the Toyota dealer again…
Car alarm warranty expired few year ago.
Car – Toyota Sienna 1999. Car Alarm – aftermarket Automate model.
I suspect the problem is with wiring or connectors, but do not know how to find and fix it.
Appreciate your input how to solve this problem.
I doubt the two are related.
The Toyota dealer is a doof…
Trying to locate a electrical fault is usualy very time consuming and expensive to have done.
Spend half a day checking the switches and any connectors you can find.
Does the mirror motor make noise? (click-click-grrr-grrr-grr)
Then it’s not electrical.
If it makes no noise, a wire came off somewhere, or the switch is bad.

If switch is on and you hear a whining noise, it is a jammed motor or the thread is stripped. They are usually plastic. If there is no whining noise, take apart the switch and clean the contact point. Also check the wiring plug behind the door panel. Also try the other switch on the passenger side.
