Can I use any type of litter in my Littermaid automated litter box?

I have a Littermaid automated litter box and I do not like the smell of the brown litter that is recommended. It is also very expensive & does not last long. Has anyone tried another type of litter and if so which brand did it you find worked best?

I have this model.

THANKS!!!!

Use ONLY clumping litter with Littermaids. Any brand will do.

Personally, I hate those things. I have a Cat Genie (see link below). NO mess, NO bother, great smell, no scooping! It may be a bit pricey, but if you can, it’s well worth it. If you consider purchasing one, email me, and I can give you a "promo code" which will save you 10% on the price.

You want to use a "Premium Clumping Litter". Try out small bags of clumping litters. Do not use ones that get "gummy" when they get wet, as this will stick to the rake. Tidy Cats (though not exactly "premium") was good to use until they changed the formula. Now it gets kind of gunky.
